History of the Stirling Players

The Stirling Community Theatre at Stirling in the beautiful Adelaide Hills is the home to a thriving amateur dramatic group, The Stirling Players.

The drama group had its humble beginnings in the early part of 1972 when a mere 25 people voted for the formation of the Hills Drama Group. The increasing interest prompted a name change to the current Stirling Players. In 1976 the Stirling Players were the initiators of the Hills Festival of One Act Plays, the first of which was held in the Stirling Community Theatre.

Since those early days of one act plays, more than 300 people of all ages have appeared on stage and behind the scenes in 102 production catering for all tastes. The productions have invariably received highly favourable commendation from the press and public. Soon after that inaugural meeting, the group's first public appearance was the melodramatic one act play Temptation Sordid and Virtue Rewarded.

There is never a dull moment with this group, either on or off stage. Being an amateur drama group, all people are welcome and encouraged to become part of this successful group of performers and producers.
