The Stirling Community Theatre at Stirling in the beautiful Adelaide Hills is the home to a thriving amateur dramatic group, The Stirling Players, who will celebrate 50 years of bringing quality drama to SA audiences in 2022.
The Stirling Players had their humble beginnings in the early part of 1972 when a mere 25 people voted for the formation of the Hills Drama Group. Soon after that inaugural meeting, the group's first public appearance was the melodramatic one act play Temptation Sordid and Virtue Rewarded.
Subsequent increasing interest prompted a name change to the current Stirling Players. In 1976 the Stirling Players were the initiators of the Hills Festival of One Act Plays, the first of which was held in the Stirling Community Theatre.
Since those early days of one act plays, hundreds of people of all ages have appeared on stage and behind the scenes in more than a hundred productions. We have established a reputation for staging challenging plays, new plays fresh from success in London and New York, and contemporary Australian drama.
The productions invariably receive highly favourable commendation from the press and public.
There is never a dull moment with this group, either on or off stage. We welcome and encourage new members to become part of this award-winningl group of performers and producers. Why not join us?
